Transmission of Monetary Policy from past to present

On 20/ 07/2018, a colourful and memorable Economic Talk was organized in our D.G Ruparel College. This wonderfully knowledge enriching event was organised by the Economics Department of the college. The event was graced by the presence of  Mrs. Davinder Kaur Suri, PhD holder in Economics, has published 5 research papers across various journals, has a rich work experience as a faculty of economics.

The event kicked off with an introduction of Mrs. Davinder Kaur Suri, the speaker of the day, followed by bouquet presentation by the HOD of the Economics department Dr. Prakash Salvi and the chairperson of Economica Mrs.Anita Hamand. The talk was aimed to make students aware of the working of the monetary policy that is, it’s framework; with which it brings about a change in the money market.

Mrs. Suri first gave us a brief introduction of the monetary policy followed by RBI (Reserve Bank of India). Then, she took us on a beautiful journey from past to present adaptation of the monetary policy of RBI while manifesting how the objectives remain more or less the same throughout the years. Also, she gave an extremely rigorous explanation of the current monetary tools used by RBI like- CRR, SLR, MSF and LAF. Nevertheless, the speaker distributed RBI’s balance sheet which contains most of the RBI’s monetary tools through which it controls the money supply in the economy. The talk was ended on a happy note by a Questions-answers round wherein the speaker responded brilliantly to all the queries of the students. It was followed by a formal vote of thanks and the event thus concluded.

The lecturer was enthusiastic, thanks to whom the talk didn’t just remain one-sided, but was more like an interactive knowledge nourishing session. We really enjoyed a lot and dispersed with a sincere hope that such cognition imparting events should be organized time and again giving the students a chance to display their talents.
