Bitcoins and Bubbles

An informative and knowledge-enriching guest lecture was organised on the 14th of August, 2018 by Economica, headed by Mrs. Anita Hamand in collaboration with the Economics department lead by Dr. Prakash Salvi in D.G. Ruparel College of Arts, Science and Commerce.
Dr. Indradeep Ghosh, the speaker, is the Dean and an Associate Professor at Meghnad Desai Academy of Economics. He has published research papers across various national and international journals. He has a rich teaching experience in an array of subjects related to Economics.
The purpose of the lecture was to introduce complicated topics of Bubbles and Bitcoins in a more simplified and easily comprehensible way so that it can be understood by students from all streams. The seminar commenced with a brief introduction of Meghnad Desai Academy of Economics and the courses offered there, by Dr. Indradeep Ghosh himself, followed by a small opening speech by a SYBA student and bestowal of a bouquet as a token of gratitude. The opening speech was quite informative as it presented us with the speaker's credentials.
The seminar proceeded with Dr. Ghosh giving all students an insight of the topic. He started by giving us a glimpse of the meaning of asset in economic terms. He did not use too many technical words and kept it simple. His lecture was relatable to real life as he used universally famous examples. Then he smoothly made a move further to explain us the intriguing concept of Bubbles and Bitcoins using a presentation, wherein he elaborately explained all minute components of the same. The lecturer thoughtfully cited a hefty number of tactically selected examples to which most of us could relate comfortably. Furthermore, the talk was very interactive as the speaker courteously resolved all queries of the students during the lecture. A 10-15 minutes question-answer round disentangled all students’ queries.
Finally, the talk concluded on a happy note with a vote of thanks by a TYBA student. Overall, the talk was extremely captivating as it not only included approachable examples from real life but had an interesting question-answer round at the end. Last but not the least, we sincerely hope that Economica will keep on organizing such impressively knowledge-complementing events for all kinds of students.
