On August 4th, 2018,  an insightful guest lecture was organised by Economica : The department of Economics, D. G. Ruparel College. It was our honour to host the extremely inspiring and admirable, alumna of St. Xavier’s College (Mumbai) and London School of Economics - Ms. Manali Pathak. Ms. Pathak has written multiple Research papers in the fields of Economics and Research Analysis, and is currently working as a Research Associate under the RBI Chair in Political Economy with the Director of Mumbai University.
The event started with a warm welcoming speech and an elaborate introduction to our Chief Guest; followed by a bouquet presentation by the HOD of the Economics department, Dr. Prakash Salvi; and the Chairperson of Economica, Mrs. Anita Hamand.
The aim of the talk was to educate students about London School of Economics- its admission processes and eligibility criteria. Ms. Pathak first gave us a brief history of her early education. She chose Economics, Mathematics and Statistics as her subjects in St. Xavier’s college and went ahead to pursue a full Economics degree, with all six papers in the field of Economics and part Statistics. She threw light on the importance of keeping a good grade record throughout Degree College examinations; and how important a factor they played in her admission into LSE. She provided brief details about the course and examination structures at LSE, and shared her personal experiences regarding the overall academic, personality and development assessments she received at the school. She gave us several tips on becoming a competitive applicant at renowned foreign universities; and also laid major emphasis on gaining practice in framing research papers, as well as the heavy importance of extra-curricular activities for an all-round impressive university application.
The talk was concluded with a light Question-Answer round, followed by a heartfelt Vote of Thanks. “We Speak” is a platform that enables students to learn about the different career choices in the vast field of Economics, through speakers with personal experience. The talk thoroughly motivated all, guiding us towards a realistic approach to tackle the next step in our careers.
